The University of Bucharest (UB) has been considered, within Romania and abroad, the country's leading educational and research institution.

The University of Bucharest is integrated in a strong network of international programs, such as SOCRATES, TEMPUS, COPERNICUS, CEEPUS, TEMPRA, PHARE or TACIS.
Every year, hundreds of students of the University of Bucharest benefit from training or specialized study in universities of Western Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan, and some tens of foreign academics from all continents teach in the faculties of the University, while members of its faculty likewise teach at leading universities in other countries.
The University of Bucharest offers a variety of courses at all levels of higher education: 22 short-duration programs, over 60 long-duration programs, 17 long-duration distance learning programs, over 100 master's degree and advanced study programs, over 50 doctoral programs, advanced postgraduate programs, and programs of professional conversion and perfection.
All of these are accredited or authorized by the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Youth.
Degrees awarded by the University of Bucharest are recognized in most countries.
The University also organizes study programs in co-operation with leading foreign universities; graduates of these programs receive degrees both from the University of Bucharest and from the partner universities.
The University of Bucharest is one of the most important centers of scientific research in the country.
There are over 50 institutes, departments and research centers functioning within UB, most of which work in collaboration with similar centres in other countries.
During the last years, our institution has repeatedly taken first place in national competitions for research funds. Some of the research centers have been recognized as excellence centers at the European level.
The Department for Technology of the University of Bucharest is in charge with designing, implementing and developing ODL and eLearning.
Between 1995 and 1999, the University of Bucharest was part of PHARE Multi-country Programme for Distance Education.
Attending this program helped the creation of the first Centre of Distance Learning Studies from the University of Bucharest, which was related with European ODL network and was recognized by the European Training Foundation (Torino).
From 1999 to 2001, within the TEMPUS project, the REDEC Center (Regional Distance Education Centre) was established in partnership with the Barcelona University (Spain), the Surrey University (England) and EADTU (European Association of Distance Teaching Universities).
International industry-certification programs were also implemented: CISCO Networking Academy Program, Microsoft IT Academy, European Computer Driving License.
The Department for Technology employs qualified IT personnel and has developed its own Virtual Campus.
The Department for Technology has developed the first ECDL courses in eLearning technology starting with 2002.
