Ilmenau University of Technology
There is close cooperation with the Technologie und Gründerzentrum Ilmenau (TGZI, Technology and Startup Business Incubator), Institut Mikroelektronik und Mechatronik-Systeme gGmbH" (IMMS, Institute for Microelectronics and Mechatronic Systems), the Steinbeis Transfer Centers "Mechatronik" (Mechatronics), "Qualitätssicherung und Bildverarbeitung" (Quality Assurance and Image Processing) and "Diagnosesysteme in Technik und Umwelt" (Diagnosis Systems in Engineering and the Environment), as well as with the Anwendungszentrum Systemtechnik des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Informations- und Datenverarbeitung IITB Karlsruhe (Systems Engineering Application Centre, Frauenhofer Institute for Information and Data Processing in Karlsruhe).
Numerous other research and transfer facilities have settled themselves near the university.
The university places great value on connections with foreign countries, especially the continuation of the traditional relationships with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as on expanding scientific contacts in Western Europe, the USA, and Asia.
In addition to the contract work with domestic and foreign industrial partners, the university maintains especially close cooperative relationships with the Thuringian economy and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region. In the past years, a wave of companies has spun off from the university.
More than 100 technology-oriented companies have established themselves in the region. The university has been involved in 43 SOCRATES/ERASMUS projects in 16 European countries since 1993.
