Carinthia Tech Institute

Carinthia Tech Institute (CTI) is a University of Applied Sciences (FH Technikum Kärnten) in the south of Austria. The School of Electronics, Villach is one of the four locations of the Carinthia Tech Institute.
The study programs have been established in accordance with the demands of industry and economy and are therefore designed to provide students with a fundamental scientific as well as specific vocational training.
Our well-trained and well-experienced teaching staff (full-time professors and part-time lecturers from all over Europe) comes either from industrial or/and university backgrounds and, in general, possesses teaching experience of higher education fields. Teaching is performed in small groups, which also contributes to the effectiveness of the study courses.
Moreover, the School of Electronics offers an evening study program for working students, addressing an increasing demand for computer-based training (CBT) courses. Therefore, we are involved in several projects on e-learning.
The institute's research focus is on applied research and development in the areas of microelectronic (FPGA and ASIC design, chip design), real time systems (real time operating systems, applications in control engineering), system integration (board design, EMI measurements, modeling and simulation for EMC) and technology-enhanced learning (Center of Competence "e-learning and Online Labs").

CTI was or is involved in several international and national research and education projects:

  • Systems on Chip for Mobile Internet (SoC-MOBINET) IST-2000-30094 (project leader)
  • Installation, operation and test of a Hyperwave Information Server for eLearning purposes. Preparation of interactive telelearning material for the courses "Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering" (3 courses) and "Circuit Design" (2 courses) "Mathematics and Modeling" (4 courses).
  • Building up a remote lab (project REL) for electronic experiments. Experiment servers are running in Villach, Brasov, Barcelona and Limerick.
  • Project VELO (Virtual Electronic Laboratory). This project was founded by the Austrian ministry of education and had a budget: Euro 220.000, (project leader)
  • New Media in Math education (NML). Founded in the program "New Media in education" by the Austrian ministry of education.
  • Online Lab Austria (OLA). Founded by the Austrian ministry of education and ESF.
  • Project MARE (Joint European Master Degree Remote Engineering), EU ERASMUS 29298-IC-1-AT-ERASMUS-PROGUC-1.
Furthermore CTI is involved as partner in some EU funded projects within the ENABLE , ALPHA and SOCRATES programmes (projects REAL, LEAL, InnoTeVo, TARET).
